Welcome to the Lubjan website

My website is dedicated to Mariska, my lovely daughter who was tragically killed at age 19 in a motorcar accident. Breeding will never be the same without you: you loved the puppies better than I ever will...
Till we meet again.

My name is Jannie Lubbe and I thank you for spending time on my web-site. I am involved with Bullies for 18 years now as a breeder and Championship-Show judge and in that time I have met so many fantastic people from all over the world- some via the internet and some in person here and abroad.

I do hope that we will become friends too, so please leave a message!

The Lubjan Kennel is situated in Warmbaths, about 130 km from Johannesburg International Airport, in Southern Africa.

The longer I am involved the more I understand how much there is to learn. There are so many variables, so many different aspects of the sport, that anyone who wants to be a successful breeder will just have to be a student forever, don’t you think? Now that the internet has open new ways to communicate, I do hope that we use the opportunity to gain more knowledge and enhance our Breed.

The very top echelon Bull Terriers in South Africa is of a high standard. Over the years some very knowledgeable breeders have gone to great lengths to overcome the isolation and distance between Africa and Europe/UK and by importing from these bastions of quality Bullies and sending bitches abroad to be mated by studs there, we have managed to breed some very good Bull Terriers. It is not strange to see a Bully win the Terrier Group and even Best in Shows in All Breed competition and as this is a quite a common occurrence, it must be indicative of the overall quality of our Bullies.

The most-famous dog to be bred by this Kennel, INT Ch Lubjan Rock and Stone (Rock) won the Southern Africa Supreme Bull Terrier title in Feb 2002. The way the judging is done at our Major Trophy Show means that the Supreme is the overall winner, because all the class-winners compete against each other in the final line-up- rather different from the procedure in the UK).He was then exported to Spain (Lord Bull Kennels of Andreu Martinez) and went on to win the European Championship title in 2003 and was runner-up in 2005.

In the process he successfully competed against top-competition from the UK and I think we can conclude that he was – and still is of the very highest standard in the world. What we certainly lack in South Africa is the depth of quality dogs that are to be seen in the rings in the UK. Rock was unbeaten in the Champion show ring during the year before his export- winning 9 BIS/BOB’s in a row. The Supreme Bull Terriers of the following three years were not even closely so dominant in the ring and at the moment the question is being asked as to what the reasons might be. Some reason that there are simply so many Bullies of similar quality in the country now, that nobody can be sure of winning. If that is the case Bull Terriers Dom in South Africa is healthy and of a high standard and- I might add- constantly being strengthened by new imports from abroad.

To me as a breeder, Rock’s accomplishments at stud were and are of as much importance as his prowess in the ring.
As you can see under the heading ”Rock” on the Menu- he is now the sire of 10 South African Champions: Ch Booksale Tamora(Larkin), litter-sister :Ch Booksale Titania(Larkin/Burger/Du Preez-), Ch Centuria Sassy Sue(Schiller/Koorts), Ch Lubjan La Luna(Lubbe/Martinez/Panisello),Ch Carradice Katwalk Kate(Lourens),Ch Bukavi Big Billy(Mattheys), litter-sister Ch Bukavi Gummy(Mattheys), Ch Idwala Radiant Ruby of Bukavi(Meyer/Mattheys), Ch Nexcon White as Night at Nexwin(Vermeulen/Elliot) and Rhynestone Rough Gem Baby (Evangelides).

He was only the second Bull Terrier in South African History to do the double: winning the Supreme Bull Terrier AND Stud Dog of the Year title with the distinction of doing it in successive years and at the age of only 3 years and 3 months! He is still being used in South Africa by way of artificial insemination and we have high hopes of him adding to the number of champions- not only here, but also on Europe and the America’s.

He has been exported to Chili in November 2005 and has since become champion of 5 more countries - and counting.  He has added to his champion count with 8 more champions in Europe and the Americas.

There were other famous Lubjan dogs/bitches too!

Rock’s Dam: Ch Prinsburg Model Ballerina of Lubjan was awarded Southern Africa’s Brood Bitch of the Year Title (Feb 2002).

Her grand-daughter and daughter of Ch Booksale Harry Hotspur : another Brood Bitch of the Year(FEB 2005): Ch Lubjan Fly Baby Fly of Bukavi.

Then there was Ch Lubjan Lazer Of Bonisio who won the Ormandy Vase for Bitches at the Major Trophy Show for Best bitch under 2 years of age while her half brother Rock and Stone , was winning the Vase for Dogs.

Ch Lubjan La Luna who was sent to Spain to be mated with a top sire. The puppies were born in March 2005 and we are waiting to see what this phenomenally-headed bitch has produced.

Ch Lubjan Blanc de Blanc of Delvino , who has won Best Of Breed, Best Puppy in Show, second in Group at the age of 7 and a half months- and went back to win the Group the following year- at Goldfields : South Africa’s largest All Breed Show!

And then there were Ch Lubjan Hijack: our very first Champion whose exploits made him famous for the wrong reasons and cost him his place in our pedigrees, but certainly not our hearts!

Then there is the New Generation:
Delvino C’est si Bon of Lubjan : Blanc de Blanc’s daughter with Trick Or Treat Usher the Raven at Calub.

Enjoy your peep into LUBJAN!

Take Care.......
